WWDC 18 – Award Winners

As with all good folklore, this year witnessed the regeneration of a ceremonial symbol – the Olga. Last year’s statuette has transformed from a lithe nymph “leaping through the azure skies,  floating above the sands of time” to an angel with outstretched wings “praying to God for common sense“. Her toenails, firmly clasping Terra Firma, embody her protective, motherly nature toward all practitioners of common sense.

Reaching to the heavens –
the ‘regenerated’ Olga

For the privileged few holding ‘Year One Olga’s’, cherish them dearly for they will become treasured collector’s items in the years to come

This year’s winners:

John Toohey, IT Manager, Harness Racing receiving his award from Olga Koneva Shchekleina

Best Developer – John Toohey, IT Manager, Harness Racing

The ‘Best Developer’ award goes to John Toohey, IT Manager at Harness Racing for his readiness to incorporate new Genero features into his applications.  All too often we find that developers are reluctant to try new things, postponing them to “next year”. And all too often developers never do. John has struck the right balance between the comfort of maintaining the status quo and boldly forging ahead. He is a great example of what can be done with Genero if the motivation is there.

His production system uses Genero BDL 3.1 and the Genero Browser Client. His team have also developed a Genero Mobile application available in their stores targeted at their community. Parts of this application use RunOnServer. He and his team use Genero Report Writer to generate operational documents and booklets. He uses IMPORT JAVA libraries to manage the upload of videos to YouTube and he uses Genero Web Services to track real-time data rendered in Google Maps using Web Components. Finally, he and his team use Genero Studio on a daily basis. All of these things add up to an Olga for John.

Rodrigo Carretero, CIO, Bogedas Chandon (LVMH) receiving his award from Olga Koneva Shchekleina

Best Innovation Enterprise – Rodrigo Carretero, CIO, Bogedas Chandon SA (LVMH)

The ‘Best Innovation for an Enterprise’ award goes to Rodrigo Carretero, CIO, Chandon LVMH, the Argentinean quality winemaker of Moët and Chandon fame, for its precision process that uses Genero to drive IoT sensors planted at the foot of every vine and line-roaming robotics to monitor soil and grape quality.

Kevin Long and Huy Ho, Versaterm Inc.,
receiving his award from Olga Koneva Shchekleina

Best Innovation ISV – Kevin Long, US RMS Product Manager, Versaterm Inc.

The ‘Best Innovation for an ISV’ award goes to Versaterm Inc., a leader in public safety systems in Canada and the USA. Successful ISVs frequently reinvent themselves and Versaterm is an excellent example of that. One of the first to see the potential of Mobile, their vision for Genero as a one-stop shop to render one business logic across all platforms was one of the drivers behind our Universal Rendering concept.

They also embraced Genero Web Services very early on, which today not only serves their customers but also the community-at-large as a distinguished, ‘government selected’ Service Provider.
