Genero db partner, Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems awarded Red Hat ‘Creative Use’ Innovation prize

First-of-its-kind ‘Creative Use’ Red Hat Innovation Award for Linux real-time capabilities goes to Raytheon at Red Hat summit

RALEIGH, NC – June 20, 2008 – Red Hat (NYSE: RHT), the world’s leading provider of open source solutions today announced the six award-winning finalists in the second annual Red Hat Innovation Awards, which took place June 18-20, 2008 at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston, Mass. Four Js partners Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems and IBM took home the ‘Creative Use’ award for its work on the US Navy, DDG1000 Zumwalt Class Destroyer Total Ship Computing Environment Infrastructure (TSCEI) program for which Genero db plays an integral part.

Genero db has been selected by Raytheon Integrated Defense Ssystems (IDS) as the onboard near real-time database management system and is being proposed in IBM Federal Division’s Network Centric Operations (NCO) defense stack (see below). Raytheon IDS together with IBM, was selected for the ‘first-of-its-kind’ use of the real-time capabilities of the Linux kernel developed by Red Hat and the open source community.

Raytheon and IBM used Red Hat’s real-time capabilities to improve programmer productivity, reduce application development times and improve total cost of ownership (TCO), providing an open-architecture shipboard enterprise network that allows seamless integration of all on-board systems.

Raytheon’s selection of Genero db for the US Navy’s destroyer program will enable us to expand into the multi-billion dollar Network Centric Operations defense marketplace,” said Bryn Jenkins, Chief Operating Officer, Four Js Development Tools.

Network Centric Warfare (NCO) is a new military doctrine pioneered by the US Department of Defense and seeks to translate an information advantage into a military advantage through the robust networking of well-informed, geographically dispersed forces. This networking depends on standards-based and in some cases open source computing platforms and requires a blend of non- and real-time information backbones.

IBM’s NCO Stack

IBM’s Federal Division, headquartered in Bethesda, MD, has signed an agreement with Four Js to include Genero db as a technology option in its own NCO computing stack, a series of standards-based software products (including real-time extensions to Linux and a real-time messaging backbone with which Genero db is already integrated) running on IBM multi-core, “Blade” Server hardware.
