Genero 1.33 Goes GA

Important new release supports exciting new datababase

We are pleased to announce the availability of this important new Genero release – Genero 1.33 – which supports the soon to be announced Genero db.
This release of Genero supports the following packages:

• GENERO DESKTOP CLIENT 1.33.1b
• GENERO WEB SERVICES EXTENSION 1.33.1g/h
• GENERO JAVA CLIENT 1.33.1a
• FOUR Js LICENCE MANAGER 5.10.1b

GENERAL KEY FEATURES SUPPORTED IN THIS RELEASE

• New database drivers :
  • MySQL 5.0.x driver (mys50x)
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2005 (msv90)
  • Oracle 10g release 2 (10.2) (oraA2x)
  • PostgreSQL 8.1 (pgs81x)N.B. For PostgreSQL users :
    You must set default_with_oid in postgresql.conf to have the UPDATE / DELETE WHERE CURRENT OF cursor working. See the Adaptation Guide for more details.
• New license manager : This release now uses the very latest v5.10 Four Js license manager, which supports ‘strict licensing’. A Genero license which has ‘strict licensing’ enabled has no 30 day grace period for providing an installation key.Four Js software can be installed and used for 30 days without being fully licensed. That leaves administrators the time to complete software installations without branding the final ‘installation key’. This may be necessary in the event that there is no Internet access required for obtaining the ‘installation key’ during the staging process. In this case the software will run for 30 days leaving administrators the time to brand the installation key when they have Internet access.

  With a strict license however, this grace period is cancelled, so the installation process will not complete without the installation key.

  This sales option is designed for those VARs that wish to ensure end-users properly license their applications. It must be specified at order time; if you don’t specify anything, the default is to maintain the 30 day grace licensing period.

• Four Js ESQL/C compiler : This release includes fesqlc, the Four Js ESQL/C compiler, which is compatible with Informix ESQL/C. This compiler converts .ec sources to .c files and links the.o objects to the runtime system database interface, allowing ESQL/C modules or programs to execute SQL statements with Genero db.

  • DESCRIBE INTO sqlda
  • TEXT/BYTE data types
  • System descriptors
  • Multi-byte character sets
    
    
• GDC : HTTP proxy support with autodetection of IE settings under Windows.
• New product : Genero Java client 1.33.1a
  This new Genero Front End can work in 2 modes;
  1. in ‘Applet’ mode through a browser with a Java Runtime or
  2. in standalone mode.

  The net result is a ‘look n feel’ akin to that of the GDC. For more infomation, read the documentation and the release notes regarding Genero Java Clients.
