Myocardial infarction (MI), more familiarly known as a heart attack, is the leading cause of death in Mexico. The Institute of Social Security Services for Civil Servants (ISSSTE) decided it needed a mobile application to improve its response to heart related incidents with its employees. The result is “ASSSISTE Infarto”, developed with Genero Mobile in just one week.
Asssiste Infarto is designed for people with known heart conditions. After downloading to iOS or Android, users enter their medical credentials, allergies and medication and are ‘live’ from that moment on.
Users can easily report an incident by pressing a heart-shaped icon on their device, which will in turn notify the nearest hospital. The hospital will immediately prepare a bed for personalized attention. Typically sufferers can be in thrombolytic therapy within the first 30 minutes of hospital admission and in hemodynamic treatment within the next 60 to 90 minutes for ventricular restoration.
In case of a heart attack, pressing the icon provokes a response from a specialized call center providing first aid advice. In parallel, a map with the nearest health center will appear on the mobile device and a cardiologist will be assigned to the case. On arrival at the hospital, the bed ward is already prepared with the required equipment for immediate care.
The app also informs relatives and other contacts of the patient’s whereabouts and status.
It is estimated that around 20,000 civil servants out of a potential 100,000 with heart conditions require the service each year. There are a total of 13 million civil servants in Mexico.
