Install Genero Ghost Client

This topic relates to the installation of the Genero Ghost Client (GGC).

The installation and licensing of Genero products requires you to read and accept the End User License Agreement, which can be found on the Four Js website at https://4js.com/end-user-license-agreements/.

The GGC package does not install like other Genero products. You do not launch an installation script and click through a wizard to install the GGC. Instead, you download the package and extract it to a directory on your machine. For details, go to Install the GGC package.

Note:

The Genero Ghost Client is also integrated with Genero Studio. See the Genero Studio User Guide for details.

To use the Genero Ghost Client API, you need a Java Development Kit (JDK). Make sure that your JDK version is version 17 or greater.

System requirements

For details about system requirements, refer to the Supported platforms and databases document (available on the Download page of the Four Js Web site) or contact your support center.

Genero compatibility for the GGC

Determine the compatibility of different versions of the Genero product family and the Genero Ghost Client.

GGC 5.00 and Genero compatibility

When using Genero Ghost Client (GGC) 5.00, ensure the other Genero components are based on compatible versions.

GGC 5.00 is compatible with FGLGWS 3.21 and above.

GGC 2.00 and Genero compatibility

When using Genero Ghost Client (GGC) 2.00, ensure the other Genero components are based on compatible versions.

The GGC 2.00 is compatible with FGLGWS 3.20.

GGC 2.x is not compatible with GGC 1.x.

Test scenarios created with GGC 1.x can not be replayed with GGC 2.x.

GGC 1.00 and Genero compatibility

When using Genero Ghost Client (GGC) 1.00, ensure the other Genero components are based on compatible versions.

The GGC 1.00 is compatible with FGLGWS 3.10.

Important:

GGC 1.00 is deprecated.

Install the GGC package

Follow these steps to install the package for the GGC.

Before you begin:

You must have an installation of Genero Business Development Language to compile the GGC source files and libraries. Part of the installation of the GGC package involves running the script to set the environment for Genero BDL before running the script to build the GGC sources.

  1. Go to the Four Js Product Download Area.
  2. Download the latest version of the GGC package.
  3. When the download completes, extract the files in the archive to your local directory.
Extract the files using an archiving tool, such as tar or gzip.
    • On Linux®/macOS™, open a command prompt. "sudo" may be required. Type the commands to change to your local directory and extract the contents of the archive file there.
      cd /myGgc
      tar xfz /home/user/Downloads/ggc-version
    • On Windows®, open an Explorer window and navigate to your downloads directory. Right click on the downloaded zip file and select Extract All. Follow the instructions to browse to your local directory and click on Extract to extract the contents of the archive file.
  4. Start the command line interface.
At a command prompt, navigate to the directory where the files were extracted (myGgc in the example) and run the script to set the GGC environment.
    • On Linux/macOS, change to your GGC directory and source the script, for example:
      cd /myGgc
      source envggc
    • On Windows, change to your GGC directory and run the bat file, for example:
      cd c:\myGgc
      envggc.bat
  5. Set the Genero BDL environment.
Navigate to your Genero BDL installation directory and set the environment.
    • On Linux/macOS, change to your FGLDIR directory and source the script, for example:
      cd /opt/fourjs/fgl
      source envcomp
    • On Windows, change to your FGLDIR directory and run the bat file, for example:
      cd "c:\program files\fourjs\fgl"
      envcomp.bat
  6. Compile the GGC source files and libraries.
Navigate to your GGC directory – the directory where you extracted the files – and run the build script to compile the sources.
    • On UNIX® like OS, change to your GGCDIR directory and run the script, for example:
      cd ${GGCDIR}
      build.sh
    • On Windows, change to your GGCDIR directory and run the bat file, for example:
      cd %GGCDIR%
      build.bat

The GGC source files and libraries application are now compiled.

When installation is complete, see the Genero Ghost Client User Guide for configuration information and instructions.
