The Genero Desktop Client configuration files

By default, the Genero Desktop Client stores configuration options in a user-specific config.xml file. A second configuration file can be specified with the --config option.

The user's default configuration file

By default, a user's Genero Desktop Client configuration is saved in the user-specific config.xml file. Changes made by the user to the Genero Desktop Client configuration are saved in this file.

Go to GDC configuration file directories for information about the location of this file.

Adding a second configuration file

Use a second configuration file to override some or all of a user's default configuration and save configuration changes made by the user.

Specify the additional configuration file with the --config option.

At startup, the Genero Desktop Client's configuration is read from:

  1. The configuration file specified by the --config option. Preference is given to settings from this file.
  2. The user's default config.xml file.

With a second configuration file defined, changes made by a user to their Genero Desktop Client configuration are written to the second configuration file. The default configuration file (config.xml) will not be altered.

Tip:

Do not edit Genero Desktop Client configuration files in a text editor; instead, use the GDC interface to configure one instance of the GDC and then share its configuration file with those users who require an identical configuration.
