comment
The comment property defines text that can be shown in the comment line when the form item becomes current or when a button receives the focus.
The most common use of the comment
property is to give information or
instructions to the user. This is particularly appropriate when the field accepts only a limited set
of values.
The screen location where the message is displayed depends on external configuration. It can be displayed in the COMMENT LINE, or in the STATUSBAR when using a graphical user interface.
The comment property can, in some situations, be a default placeholder. If the value of the comment property cannot be rendered in a dedicated area (typically, on mobile devices), the comment property value is used as the default placeholder value.
