Domain Name System (DNS)

Each client host will uses the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) to access the domain controller. Ensure that your DNS is functioning and well-configured.

Note: This topic provides commands for checking the validity of the current configuration step.

On Windows™ Clients:

  1. From the Start menu, select Start >> Run.The Run dialog opens.
  2. In the Open field, type cmd and click [Ok].The CMD application window opens, providing a command line.
  3. Type nslookup and press ENTER.
  4. Type set type=all and press ENTER.
  5. Type _kerberos._tcp.dc._msdcs.intranet.corporate.com and press ENTER.
You should see something like:
 > _kerberos._tcp.dc._msdcs.intranet.corporate.com
 Server:  ad.intranet.corporate.com
 Address:  10.0.0.125
 
 _kerberos._tcp.dc._msdcs.intranet.corporate.com     SRV service location:
          priority       = 0
          weight         = 100
          port           = 88
          svr hostname   = ad.intranet.corporate.com
 ad.intranet.corporate.com   internet address = 10.0.0.125
