IDC SOA Forum East

New York, NY – June 18, 2007 — For just one glorious, sunny day in New York, International Data Corp. (IDC) succeeded in gathering the nation’s leading industry luminaries committed to Service Oriented Architectures (SOA) in a charming East Side Marriott Hotel salon.

Joining the ranks of IBM and webMethods as event co-sponsors, Four Js used the event to impart its SOA vision to top CIOs and reep the experience of those that have already ‘cut their teeth’ with live deployments.

“This show was a real eye-opener for me,” said Bryn Jenkins, Four Js COO. “Where some industry trends turn out to be just passing fads, SOA is clearly embedding itself as an industry staple. Enterprises that don’t adhere to the vision, will surely find themselves having trouble competing in the future. It’s important to get this kind of feedback to reassure ourselves that we are backing the right horse.”

Hosting the event was Sandra Rogers, WW SOA Program Manager at IDC who delivered her vision of the business dynamics that are forcing change and driving SOA in corporate IT architectures. She was accompanied by Marianne Hedin WW Program Manager, Services and Services-Oriented Architecture who described the enormous services opportunity emerging from this trend.

Keynote speaker Andres E. Carvallo, Chief Information OfficerAustin Energy, described the transformation of his organisation from being a somewhat staid local energy provider to a cutting edge, state-of-the-art services provider capabale of innovation that ‘self heals’ and drives top line revenues.

Faced with an abundance of one-to-one connections of best of breed applications with different architectures, Austin Energy through Andres’ unique and inspired vision, turned to SOA to deliver a fully-integrated and ‘self-healing’ enterprise.

This effort was business-driven vs. IT-driven, a key factor in its success. Andres described how Business Process Management (BPM) fit within his SOA framework and the key concerns he dealt with when modeling, assembling, deploying and managing his complex business processes.

Andres explained how Austin Energy re-engineered all of its 72 major business processes and integrated brand new processes quickly into the SOA.
